Prime Big Deal Days 2026: Coding Book and Programmer Gift Prices to Beat (UK)

Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days runs on 6 and 7 October 2026: 48 hours of deals for Prime members. If you are planning to buy a programming book, or a gift for someone who codes, it is worth knowing what things cost before the event. The strike-through "was" price on a listing is often a list price that almost nobody pays, so a "35% off" badge can simply mean "the normal price".

So this is a watchlist rather than a list of deals. Every price below was checked on Amazon UK on 28 September 2026. If the price you see on 6 October is lower than ours, it is a real saving. If it is the same, the badge is decoration.

We will update this page during the event with the prices we actually see.

How to read a Prime Day book price

Programming books have an unusual pricing pattern on Amazon UK. The publisher's list price (the "RRP" or "was" figure) is set high, and Amazon sells below it almost all the time. That is why the For Dummies All-in-One books below all show a 30-40% "discount" today, eight days before the sale starts.

Three things to check before you buy:

• Compare against today's price, not the RRP. The table below is your baseline.
• Check the edition. Several of these books have had new editions, and Amazon sometimes lists more than one. A cheap older edition is fine for fundamentals, but less so for fast-moving topics like JavaScript frameworks.
• Paperback prices move more than you would expect. Book prices on Amazon can change several times a week with or without a sale, so a small drop on the day is not necessarily a Prime Day deal.

Learning to code from scratch

Coding All-in-One is the practical, web-first choice: HTML, JavaScript and Python in one book. Beginning Programming All-in-One is the conceptual one, closer to a first-year computing course. Get Coding! is already half its list price at £4.99, which is about as low as a new children's coding book goes. If you are buying it as a gift there is little reason to wait for the sale.

Amazon also has a separate listing for Coding All-in-One For Dummies at £34.97. Check which edition you are buying.

One language, in depth

These are the books to buy once you know which language you need. The two JavaScript titles are easy to confuse:

• JavaScript All-in-One assumes you want to become productive in JavaScript itself, and goes on to React, Vue, Svelte and Node.js.
• HTML, CSS & JavaScript All-in-One is about building websites, and teaches all three languages together. If you have never written HTML, start here.

R All-in-One and Data Science Programming All-in-One overlap on data work. Data Science splits its pages between Python and R, and R All-in-One goes deeper on R alone. Pick R All-in-One if R is what your course or job uses.

Data Science Programming All-in-One is the only book here close to its list price at the moment (£24.75 against £27.99), and Amazon shows limited stock. It has the most room to drop during the event.

Once you can already code

This is not a tutorial. It is 97 two-page essays from experienced developers, including Robert C. Martin, Michael Feathers and Pete Goodliffe, about the habits that separate working code from good code. It suits a junior developer, a bootcamp graduate or anyone self-taught, and at under £10 it is already a reasonable gift price.

Programmer mugs and t-shirts: prices to beat

Gift items work differently from books. Most programmer t-shirts and mugs on Amazon are made to order by small sellers, and each seller decides whether to join a sale. Some drop their prices for Prime Day and many do not, so if you need a gift by a particular date, do not count on a discount.

• Buying a book for yourself and not in a hurry: wait, and compare against the tables above. You lose nothing by waiting, and anything under our figure is a genuine saving.
• Buying a gift with a deadline: do not wait for a mug or t-shirt discount that may not come. Most of these sellers do not rely on sale events.
